Abstract:
The seminar presents the purpose and structure of the newly founded Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS) with particular emphasis on activities of the school in the field of materials research. The terms and status of External Senior Fellows and Junior Fellows will be described, and the establishment of experimental research units in conjunction with university departments will be discussed. This latter aspect will in particular be elucidated for research in conjunction with the Department of Microsystems Engineering (IMTEK). An overview of infrastructure and current research foci at IMTEK will also be provided.
